The Scene sets benchmark for design

The Scene development in Walthamstow has been named the most sustainable high-density project in London.

It won the accolade at the Housing Design Awards on Monday 11 July. Developed by Hill and the Islington and Shoreditch Housing Association (ISHA) and designed by architect Pollard Thomas Edwards, the scheme includes 121 homes, a nine-screen cinema and five restaurants.

A spokesperson for Hill said: “It was the first year in which the sustainability award has been presented to a development that provides ideas on how to deliver high-density homes, so we are thrilled that the innovative planning and sustainable design of our Walthamstow scheme could spark that change.”

The latest award follows The Scene's triumphs in three categories at the WhatHouse? awards in November 2015. These included gold awards for best development and best brownfield development and the silver award for best partnership.

The Scene created 100 jobs, many of which went to local residents, according to ISHA.
