The producer behind Hull's 2017 City of Culture programme will join Waltham Forest Council as creative director of the London Borough of Culture 2019.
Sam Hunt led Hull's cultural activities throughout 2017 – and will direct the borough's £5 million initiative next year, working alongside director Lorna Lee.
Waltham Forest was announced as the first ever London Borough of Culture 2019 in February, with Brent set to take over the title in 2020. The initiative is designed to showcase Waltham Forest's attractions and cultural activities on the map and provide a boost to help young people into cultural careers and ensure that at least 85% of households in the borough take part in the initiative.
Clare Coghill, leader of Waltham Forest Council, said: "We are delighted to welcome Sam [Hunt] to our team for London Borough of Culture 2019. His wealth of experience working across the arts promises to bring that something extra special to our year of culture, and put Waltham Forest firmly on the international map.
"Planning for London Borough of Culture 2019 is now thoroughly underway, and we can't wait to share plenty of exciting announcements over the next few months, with Sam at the helm."
