William Morris Design Line at London Design Festival 2024
The William Morris Design Line presents an open weekend of design, craft and making across Blackhorse Lane and Argall Industrial Area.
Makers and creators in our corner of London are opening their doors to give a behind-the-scenes sneak peek, as part of the London Design Festival and Open House Festival 2024.
This is a rare opportunity to meet the makers, discover the process behind their work and try your hand at making.
The programme includes open studios, factory tours, demonstrations and events, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to discover the historic industrial areas of Blackhorse Lane (Walthamstow) and Argall Industrial Area (Lea Bridge) with events also taking place at the William Morris Gallery and the Wood Street area.
More than 40 designers, makers, manufacturers and creative businesses are sharing the tools and processes behind their work, as well as opening up their spaces to the public.
The programme explores three core themes: community, tools and process. You can see the full programme here.
The William Morris Design Line 2024 has been organised by London Borough of Waltham Forest in collaboration with Blackhorse Workshop and Wood Street Walls with the support of Blackhorse Collective and Argall Business Improvement District. It is part funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
Inspired by William Morris’s belief in art ‘made by the people and for the people’, the William Morris Design Line was created by Wood Street Walls in 2020, as part of the Local Trust's Creative Civic Change Programme in collaboration with William Morris Big Local. It helped establish a community-led design route through Walthamstow. This year, programmed in partnership with Waltham Forest Council it will extend beyond E17 for the first time to the Argall Industrial Area in Lea Bridge.
